Included in this post are a couple of photos of the display window advertising Knockemstiff at Posman Books located at 9 Grand Central Terminal in New York City. I’d been a bit down a couple of days ago after finding out that the book wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire as far as sales go, but these pictures helped me get over it. They’ve even got Daniel’s wig! So, if you’re ever in NYC, please stop at Posman and give them some business. It’s clearly evident from this friggin’ fantastic display that these great people are devoted to books!
I also want to again thank the people at Book World in Chillicothe, Ohio, for all of their support. There’s no doubt in my mind that they’ve sold more copies of Knockemstiff than any other independent bookstore (heck, maybe even any chain) in America (it’s a hometown thing!).

That’s got to be one of the best book store displays ever. (Tho flies… ha!)
hello
i’m an NYC resident and i remember seeing this amazing display!! i’ve been in a bit of a book slump as i’ve not been able to finish anything lately but when i saw this book in the bookstore i was immediately drawn into it. the title alone got me interested! and then when i found out knockemstiff actually existed and that you, the author were from there i bought it immediately. i am thoroughly enjoying reading your collection of short stories and am almost done with it. everything about this book (the people, the locations, the situations and struggles these people deal with every day) is just so sad and funny and beautiful.
it’s just really a great book and i just wanted to tell you so.
thanks
have you ever read any of charlie leduff’s books? the titles are:
work and other sins:life in new york city and thereabouts
and
us guys:the true and twisted mind of the american man
they’re auto-bio stories about real working class people. i think you might enjoy them.
I just got back from San Francisco. The legendary beatnik book store there, City Lights, has Knockemstiff displayed prominently in its featured books section in the front of the store (though without such an elaborate display as this one). Also, my book shop friends in Chicago say their stores are stocking it. I just wanted to let you know that the book can be found on all coasts (including the middle coast). This book deserves a wide audience. It’s the best thing I’ve read in a dog’s age. (Congrats on the tour with Chuck P.)
